The Marlux® disposable curtains have been designed to help control infection by making it both economical and easy to change curtains more frequently.
Each curtain comes in a protective sleeve. As the hooks are prefitted, the curtain does not need to be laid on the floor. It is quickly and hygienically hung onto the track and the sleeve is removed only when the curtain is in position.
The current practise of using fabric curtains has been clinically linked to the source of 'comparatively high counts of organisms' (Ref: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter and role of curtains in an outbreak in intensive care units. The curtains are supplied in 10 standard size, or 6 large size, per box, which is light for staff to pick up and to fit. They can be easily stored on the ward so that replacement curtains are available for nursing staff at any time, including nights and weekends.

The Marlux® disposable curtains are made from 100% polypropylene which has one of the lowest environmental impacts of any material - synthetic or traditional.
As part of our environmental policy we are able to offer a nationwide waste collection service. However, in some circumstances where hospital risk assessments dictate, waste should be classified as clinical waste, (e.g, isolation rooms where disposable aprons and gloves are used) then disposable curtains should be integrated into risk assessed procedure.

The curtains are manufactured from a treated polypropylene disposable (and recyclable) fabric, which will not support bacterial growth or rip. Marlux® curtains are available in a range of opaque colours for patient privacy. Each curtain comes in a protective sleeve with prefitted hooks, so the curtain does not need to be laid on the floor. Each curtain can be taken down and refitted in 2-3 minutes per bed space. Specially designed labelling enables each ward to monitor how often the curtains have been changed, and to set protocols. In most cases existing track can be adapted or purpose built tracks can be installed.
When using Marlux® curtains, there are no laundry costs and with the speed and ease of fitting, labour costs will be considerably lower.

Shower curtains in particular present a risk for cross infection because they are not designed to be cleaned in the usual hospital laundry process.

Marlux Fast-Fit Window Track is a high grade system for providing curtain track to all shapes and sizes of windows. The white powder coated Fast-Fit track rail section is manufactured from aluminium to BS EN 755, perfectly complementing the cubicle track and offering the opportunity to fully coordinate cubicle curtains with window curtains.
The design of the Window Track system allows it to be fitted into the window recess or on the outside in much the same way as most blinds. An important design feature is its compatibility with Marlux Disposable Curtains which can be fitted in seconds. Conventional curtains can also be used on this system with the unique ‘clip-on’ ‘clip-off’ hook. The system is easy to install and requires minimal maintenance.
